Brooklands Double 12

It is a car event, but the motorcycle presence increases every year. For those of a liberal outlook, there were plenty of interesting cars as well as automobilia stands and even period dance displays.

The speed activity of the re-created event is centred on a sprint around part of the the Mercedes-Benz test track. Among the entry of historic race cars there is always spirited competition from Morgan enthusiasts, demonstrating that three wheels can be just as effective as four around the sinuous course.

Most of the motorcycles remained static exhibits, but members of the Francis-Barnett Owners Club, regularly supporters of Brooklands events, managed to join the queue of cars and persuade examples of their favoured marque over daunting Test Hill. Elsewhere, the Sussex branch of the British Motor Cycle Owners Club assembled a gleaming line of machines, attracting many onlookers and inevitably receiving many "I used to ride one of those" comments.
