The wrong man

I’ve just opened the January 2020 edition and went straight to the feature about the 1960 GP season.

I’m pretty sure that the picture on page 60 is John Surtees and Alan Shepherd on an AJS, not John Hartle on a Norton.

Shepherd actually led Surtees in the race until – I think it was – the gudgeon pin on the AJS snapped.

That’s Alan Shepherd harrying John Surtees. In fact, Shepherd actually got in front, until he was forced to retire when his AJS 7R broke.

Also, Hartle always rode with a white helmet. Hartle did come second after Shepherd retired.
