George Costain races to victory in the 1954 Manx GP.

Winner of the 1954 Senior Manx GP George Costain has died, aged 88. From the Isle of Man, George won on Reg Dearden’s Manx Norton, the same source providing his machines the next year for his TT debut.

George’s best TT finish was 13th in the 1956 Senior, gaining nine silver replicas in his career.

He retired from competition in 1961, concentrating on his successful butcher’s business in Castletown, though he continued an interest in road racing, acting as travelling marshal at the Southern 100 for several years.
