Vincent OC at Whitley Bay
By: James Robinson
The Vincent OC converged on Whitley Bay for the 2010 National Rally.
The Vincent Owners Club national rally took place on the weekend of 7-8 August, based around the north eastern coastal town of Whitley Bay. Vincents of all shapes and sizes were in attendance, with a Series A V-twin among them, a rare Series B Meteor plus a pair of enclosed series Ds.
The Saturday ride-out was somewhat compromised by inclement conditions – it really did rain hard! Still, over 30 Vincents set off into the Northumbrian countryside, with the ride led by Mick Farwell, proprietor of the superb Avalon Hotel and Bar in Whitley Bay. Mick was riding his Chinese red finished Black Shadow – not original, he knows, but it sure did provoke plenty of interest.
The Avalon was the starting point for the ride-out, with Vincents lined up in front of the hotel. The hotel itself is well worth a visit – the theme is overwhelmingly motorcycles, with at least a couple displayed in the bar! Also, there’s motorcycle memorabilia everywhere and it seems like the majority of the local two-wheeled community make a beeline for the place too.
