Once upon a time in Mexico
By: Web Editor
My name is Jorge Medina Ruiz, I’m from Mexico. I’m 51 years old and a commercial pilot with Mexicana Airlines.
Start of 100cc class, in 1964, Pistas Paraiso Estado de Mexico.
I was born into a life of motorcycles. My dad had a Laundry Cleaner and used to deliver the clothes with a pair of Harleys with sidecars. When I was a child, he bought my big brothers two Mexican motorcycles, an Islo 175cc, and an Islo 50cc. A little later, they started to compete in local races around Mexico. My brother Guillermo Medina (17 years old, in those years), began to race in 50cc class, being very successful in the early 1960s, with these small, tiny bikes. They managed to make them run pretty fast, really... I can’t forget that sound like mosquitoes or bees...
I love motorcycles, I’m crazy about them, particularly the oldest... I buy your magazine monthly, when I fly to the USA. You often present old archive photographs and request and I’d be very pleased if some day you can publish some photos of my brother. Sadly, he died in an assault 17 years ago, at age of 46. He was my hero. Thank you in advance. Sorry for my mistakes, I’m trying to do my best writing this letter!
