It was while restoring the ex Machin and Saunders Yamaha TZ750 that Lincolnshire racer and restorer Pete Boast had the idea to unveil his handiwork at a special, invitation only, evening in the Cadwell Park clubhouse, and give the machine’s former rider, Roger Marshall, something of a treat...
With a little help from local event organiser and compere for the evening Keith Martin, as well as from Classic Racer, the clubhouse was packed with Lincolnshire based riders spanning three generations.
When Roger, who just thought he was going out for a quiet pint, arrived, with no idea what was in store, Pete Boast unveiled the Yamaha, restored for a local collector, stopping Roger in his tracks. Also present was Don Briggs and Dave Saunders, the technical team behind the TZ back in the day.
Meanwhile John Surtees has been awarded the Segrave Trophy for his unique achievement of being the only man to win world championships on both two and four wheels, almost 50 years after he won the Formula 1 title. Surely now is the time to push for that long overdue knighthood.
