Eddie Wallbank and his daughter get the ‘go’ signal in ‘The Fast Lady’, the tuned Vincent outfit created in the seventies by road-racer Malcolm Attrill

The annual Wings & Wheels event, held at Dunsfold Aerodrome near the Surrey Hills, maintained its successful formula of providing a top class airshow with a mix of bikes and cars representing the ‘Wheels’...

The content of the show continues to improve year on year. As well as the static display that included a stunt area and arena trials demonstrations, there is also a paddock where the ‘wheels’ that take part on the runway demonstrations are parked.

This time, the guest of honour was John Surtees. As well as two of the Formula 1 cars he created as a team owner (one had been driven by Mike Hailwood) John also demonstrated the Black Lightning he built while he was working at the Vincent factory. This was much appreciated by the huge crowd as Dunsfold offers around a straight mile of runway to put on a show with no concerns about the decibel output.

The Sussex British Motor Cycle Owners supported the event and created great interest with its 28-strong display of classic machines. Most of them joined the road racers and members of the National Sprint Association on the two one-hour runway sessions each day.
