Panelbeater-turned-aluminium-artist Paul Pennell will be showing his unique aluminium hand crafted 'portraits' at forthcoming motorcycle events, so look out for his distinctive handiwork...
Paul Pennell like his late father is skilled traditional panelbeater who has made intricate one-off wings and bodies in steel and aluminium for some of the world's finest cars. Although he continues to be a car enthusiast, in 2009 he started a new business venture, Artistry in Aluminium, where he could showcase his creative aluminium handiwork.
The handmade 'portraits' that Paul creates are termed ‘repousse’ work which is the creation of three-dimensional shapes and pictures in sheet metal by the use of traditional embossing and chasing techniques.
All 'pictures' are made entirely by hand using only basic hand tools, a leather sandbag and a single 1mm sheet of aluminium.
Paul has just completed his first motorcycle portrait of a Triumph for a client, measuring 60cms by 80cms, and it has worked so well that he has decided to offer similar one-off commissions of any motorbike at a cost of £675, supplied framed and ready to hang.
He is currently working on a Brough Superior SS100 portrait, which he expects to have on display at forthcoming motorcycle events.
