Classic British Legends: Geoff Duke

In the years immediately after the Second World War, the British public was crying out for heroes, desperate for some relief after six years of war and continued economic and social problems. Though the war had been won, it had taken a terrible toll on the nation’s resources and, ultimately, collective spirit – with things like rationing a daily reminder times were still austere.

So, what was needed was men and women who could make the people’s spirits soar, who would bring sunshine and optimism to the lives of the general working public and who would make the British people feel proud to be British. In the motorcycling world, one man ticked more boxes than any other – Geoffrey Ernest Duke.
