The building of my own Martin special took place between 1957 (when I was 17) and 1959. The body was fitted to a strengthened 1947 Ford van chassis.
The enclosed photograph was taken at Aylesford paper mill where the group of lads, including myself (second from left), worked as apprentice maintenance engineers. The Norton Dominator on the left was brand new, and the motorcycle on the right a Triumph Speed Twin.
